About us

The Cauldron is a performing arts foundation based in Amsterdam, dedicated to creating inclusive, engaging English-language theater.

We bring together a vibrant community of amateurs and semi-professionals to stage a diverse range of productions, from classic plays and musicals to original works.

Through workshops in acting, dance, singing, and technical theater, we support our members in developing their skills while fostering meaningful connections within the community.

At the heart of The Cauldron’s mission are the values of diversity, inclusion, and equality. These principles guide our casting, our open-door approach to talent, and our ongoing commitment to high artistic standards.

The Cauldron is governed by a board of directors that adheres to the Dutch Cultural Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code, and the Code of Diversity and Inclusion.

Izzy is originally from the UK where she grew up being involved in various musical and creative activities: from singing in an award-winning youth choir, to playing saxophone in a jazz band, and performing in dance competitions. As secretary of the board at The Cauldron, Izzy is excited to combine her professional skills and experience with her enthusiasm for (musical) theatre and performing arts, contributing to the positive impact of this community-driven organization.

Izzy Sayers (UK)

BOARD MEMBER

Originally from Ukraine, Stacy developed a deep love for theater and music from a young age. Growing up in Kyiv, she spent her evenings immersed in playing and creating music, starting from her time at a music school and later with a band. Alongside her musical pursuits, she found joy in participating in various theater productions. Despite her passion for the arts, Stacy took a different career path, diving into research in particle physics and later transitioning to a tech career. This shift led her to temporarily pause her creative endeavors, revealing how much she missed them. In 2020, Stacy moved to Amsterdam and rekindled her passion for performance by getting involved in improv, musicals, plays, and film. She joined The Cauldron to help create more opportunities for English-speaking artists in the Netherlands.

ASSISTANT EVENT COORDINATOR

Betsy Brossman grew up in Wheeling, West Virginia where her love for 70s folk music and the performing arts was born. Before moving to the Netherlands in 2021, Betsy lived in New York City for four years where she worked as an usher for Jujamcyn Broadway theatre company and sang in an all-female a cappella group.

Having since discovered a different kind of ‘stage’, Betsy is currently a lecturer at the University of Amsterdam in the Media Studies department where she teaches about and researches the sounds of the (American) rural milieu, questioning how music, lyrics, and music videos can play a role in perpetuating stereotypes of non-urban spaces. When she is not teaching or singing with The Cauldron Choir, she finds joy in accompanying herself at home on badly-played guitar or ukulele.

CHOIR COORDINATOR

Jack Engelbrecht would like to be specialized in everything. What? ADHD? …No. He graduated from BEAR (even fancier fine art) with conceptual art exploring the catharsis that occurs when an audience member maps their emotionality onto the outside experiences and  identity of fictional characters. Since then he has re-focused on writing his own stories so as to be able to enrapt the audience himself. To help deal with the semi-permanent writers block he’s active in the improv scene in Amsterdam; founding the improv troupe ‘the gang of parrots’ and teaching improv to young autistics at Interacting.

After moving on from coordinating the Parrots improv team, (and in addition to taping most Cauldron shows), he’s now the new coordinator for the Cauldron choir.

Before moving to the Netherlands, Andreea volunteered at both national and independent theatres in Romania.
